What is Ninsight?
After 69 issues (before reforming for another 5) and 8 issues of Ninty Fresh, we called time on both. Dreaming of something bigger and more glorious, we toiled away behind the scenes, creating a premium, deluxe publication with a longer release cycle. An annual, with a magazine-style approach. We called it Ninsight, a premium print publication bursting with Nintendo insight.
If you loved SPM and Ninty Fresh, then you’d have loved our test issue, Ninsight #0, which launched in early 2024. Reception was great, but the [book] had a small, limited print run. Now, with the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, we’re revisiting Ninsight, turning that ambitious original vision into a high-quality magazine with an affordable price point. And so, here we are.
Ninsight #1 will be an 80-100 page premium magazine dedicated to the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, alongside coverage of Nintendo’s legacy. Featuring in-depth launch coverage of the new hardware, Ninsight #1 will also have columns and features on the latest Nintendo talking points. We’ll review all the big games, presenting each in far more depth than before. You’ll also get bespoke artwork, beautiful infographics, and informative retrospectives, analysis, and news on upcoming releases. And no adverts!
You can expect detailed, in-depth reviews for the major launches, including Mario Kart World, Cyberpunk 2077, Donkey Kong Bananza, and many more. It'll also be much bigger than Switch Player, coming in at 297mm by 210mm (A4 UK standard) and will be finished on deluxe, glossy paper stock too.
We decided (and needed) to make this change because although demand for Switch Player was still strong, rising costs as well as the time investment made it unviable. By transforming what we do into this new model, we can afford to produce something more impressive, reduce both our costs as well as those to the reader (be decreasing frequency, cutting out regular higher postage costs) and have something more long-lasting and timely. Like a Nintendo themed time-capsule!
Ninsight 1 is set to launch in early September.
